Andy Warhol

Andy Warhol, born Andrew Warhola, was born on August 6, 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He dropped the ‘a’ at the end of his last name during the year 1949. He was one of the world’s most popular magazine and ad illustrators, who used avant-garde as well as highly commercial sensibilities in his artworks. He was also experienced in filmmaking, performance arts, as well as video installations.

After graduating from college with his degree in Bachelor of Fine Arts, Warhol moved to New York, where he pursued a career as a commercial artist in the year 1949. In 1961, he came upwith the concept/movement called “Pop Art”. During this time, the iconic paintings of Campbell’s soup can were exhibited. This artwork created a major stir in the art industry, and as a result, Warhol and Pop Art gained a high recognition.
